Statistics Emphases
Program Purpose
The Statistics Department emphases empower students with a shared foundation in probability theory, statistical inference, and calculus while developing professional skills in fitting complex statistical models and communicating technical findings to diverse audiences. These pathways prepare graduates for both high-impact professional careers and advanced graduate research.
- Data Analytics: This program provides a strong foundation in statistics and programming paired with a business background in finance, marketing, or accounting, allowing students to earn industry micro-certifications like AWS or Tableau.
- Statistical Science: This emphasis focuses on deep academic preparation including advanced statistical modeling and mathematics and is designed to qualify students for entry into top-tier graduate programs (Masters and/or PhD) in the field of statistics.
- Biostatistics: This pathway specializes in applying statistical methods to the life sciences, combining rigorous mathematical training with coursework in biology and epidemiology to prepare students for graduate study in biostatistics or careers in the health field.
- Data Science: This emphasis prioritizes a robust computing foundation, training students to acquire, clean, and store a wide variety of data types while understanding modern data workflows and pipelines for implementing modern machine and deep learning algorithms.
