Program Purpose
Learning Outcomes
The Africana Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program designed to help students:
Gain Factual KnowledgeGain factual knowledge of the geography, history, politics, cultures, and social and family realities of the African continent and the African diaspora throughout the world.
Learn and apply theories and methodologies from the major disciplines involved in the study of social and cultural issues related to Africa and the African diaspora, both past and present.
Analyze rigorously cultural, economic, historical, literary, political, social, and religious texts and sources to better comprehend how African and African-diasporic experiences have been, and continue to be, constructed and transmitted.
Develop life-long learning and service – Cultivate the curiosity and habits of thoughts that will lead to life-long learning about and continued contact with the peoples and cultures of Africa and the diaspora.
Integrate gospel principles into the study of African and African-diasporic practices to strengthen personal testimony, deepen discipleship in harmony with prophetic guidance, and cultivate Christlike love for all of God's children.
