The History major is one of the "Liberal Arts." This means it liberates you to pursue any variety of professions in your lifetime, unlike narrowly specialized, technical, and vocational majors. You will be able to think, to speak, to read, to analyze, to create persuasive arguments, to research, and to write. Relatively few people can do these things well. The only way to gain these skills and abilities is through practice and hard work. History courses provide extensive instruction and opportunities for you to develop these talents.
