Museum Practices CERT

Program Purpose


The Museum Practices Program aims to develop museum professionals, advocates, and leaders whose efforts are guided by concern and respect for the communities served and the world around them.

Learning Outcomes


Museum Ethics and Practices

Students will be able to critically assess and propose appropriate courses of action for a variety of museum scenarios. Successful implementation of these actions is dependent on students' commitment to ethical standards; knowledge of state, national, and international laws; and Christ-like engagement with and concern for involved communities.

Professional Capacity

Students will be able to plan and execute museum projects (such as exhibitions, educational programs, and collection projects) that positively impact communities as a result of in-depth research, effective writing, understanding and connection with communities, appropriate care for objects utilized, and inspiring leadership.

Holistic Communication

Students will be able to productively communicate through museum genres (exhibitions, catalogs, reports, presentations, proposals, evaluations, etc.) with a variety of audiences and stakeholders.

Life-long Integration of Service and Faith

Students will be able to articulate their personal understanding of the role of museums in society., These include museums' sacred stewardship over their collections, their relationships with communities, nurturing connections within families, and valuing each person as a child of God.
