Professional Language MA

Program Purpose


The Master of Arts in Professional Language educates students for employment in government, business, and church positions that require a professional level of language proficiency and a graduate degree.  This degree is offered as an integrated BA/MA program that is available to undergraduate students majoring in the target language.

Language Proficiency

Students will demonstrate proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and listening in another language in addition to English. According to the ACTFL scale, students will demonstrate Superior level proficiency in at least one of the categories, and at least Advanced-Mid level proficiency in the other three.

Students will demonstrate the linguistic, cultural, and interactive communication skills necessary to function professionally in their chosen domain or discipline.

Evidence of Learning


Language Proficiency will be measured using standardaized proficiency tests approved by the ACTFL. 

Professional Linguistic and Culural Competence will assessed by obersvation of the students' performance in a pprofessional work environment and by feedback received from their supervisors.
